These people might be two-footed drivers. My mother used to do this and you'd see the brakes flash on and off while following behind her because she'd be hovering her foot on the brake pedal while also hitting the accelerator.

In addition to this, the voltage drop from one end of the wire to the other would probably make a 5V input useless to begin with when you only get 1.5V out on the other end. Higher input voltage doesn't suffer quite as badly while also helping to keep the current low like you mentioned.

I think it's different than you describe since they own the publisher(s) and the distribution as well. This is no different than some famous examples like movie studios buying theaters and only showing their movies or Microsoft forcing people to use Internet Explorer. The quality of journalism should be irrelevant since the law is supposed to apply equally. Your example of Twitter killing journalism is different since they have no association with those other companies.

I agree the industry is eroding but I think that has more to do with the internet as a whole and people not wanting to pay and less to do with regulations. This situation can't help the industry if it's killing off a bunch of companies since they can't get fair representation on a major platform like reddit. That just leads to further consolidation and more of what we're currently dealing with.

Reminds me of the recent 'new' release of the Epstein files that were just the same trove of documents from the previous release just with more redactions added.

My job offers quarterly team building budgets to each department so we can go out to dinner or whatever during work hours. I think this is preferable to surprise events since people might have things they need/want to get done and it would be annoying to spring this on people without prior notice. We don't use it every quarter but it's still nice to get away every now and then even though I don't always enjoy the social aspect of it.

Perhaps if we get a sane and effective government one of these decades, they can open an anti-trust investigation into Conde Nast considering they're using their monopoly to give an unfair advantage to their own companies using your very example.

The only difference is the administration of the instance (their activeness, beliefs and how they choose to moderate), what instances they federated or defederated with (like hexbear and lemmygrad), and what features they've chosen to implement or not (like downvotes). For casual use, it probably doesn't make a difference.

I'm just now realizing my primary account is here on .ee as well. I have one with lemmy.one and midwest.social but I'll probably make a new one somewhere else like dbzero unless they're still federated with hexbear since .one doesn't use downvotes and I have constant connection issues with midwest.social.

In Proxmox, LXCs allow you to easily share resources between containers like your iGPU can be shared with your Jellyfin container and a separate Immich container. From my understanding, VMs bind whatever resource to the VM which can't easily be used with other VMs or containers.

SiriusXM is now buying up a ton of popular podcasts and locking new episodes behind a completely separate membership from my Spotify subscription, so my feed is filling with a bunch of locked episodes. They've found a way to torture everyone not just those people who tried a free trial (or were given one after buying a car).

What a surprise, the standard "they have no power to do anything to help" excuse whenever any Democrat is rightly criticized for their inaction on any issue. We heard this a lot during the 15 months of him enabling a genocide including those several months after SCOTUS declared the president immune from the law and after Harris had already lost; excuse after excuse. Meanwhile Republicans always manage to steamroll through their legislation or orders regardless of whether they have the authority, power, or majority because Democrats always either enable them or roll over for them.

Hmm, it almost seems as if the whole "leftist," human rights, working class support rhetoric is just an act like it's all a fucking scripted WWE match. It's funny that even when the Democrats have a supermajority, they still have some excuse for why they can't help the country or improve the average person's quality of life.

It's also funny that all you've done here is latch onto two words from my comment in order to derail the discussion and steer it away from the factual evidence demonstrating that she did and does support Israel's genocide in stark contrast to your false claims that she is against this one-sided war. You can't deny that she had someone ejected from her rally for calling it a genocide. You can't deny that she wanted to continue arming Israel. You can't deny that she stated a genocide isn't happening. You can't deny that she spent half her campaign palling around with yet another war criminal Dick Cheney. Instead, you'd rather pretend that none of this is happening and lash out at the people who are done pretending.

Because Harris told them, multiple times, month after month after month that she wanted a cease fire, a hostage release, and a two state solution.

Who gives a shit what she said when her actions completely contradict that empty rhetoric? Joe Biden also claimed to support a two state solution while giving Israel every bomb, weapon, equipment, funding and support they needed to wipe Palestine off the map. Please elaborate on what her actual plan was to achieve even one of these things or why you think this wasn't just more of the same empty rhetoric we've gotten from Democratic candidates over the past several decades.

At one of her rallies, she had someone removed after they stated that Israel was committing genocide and made sure to release a statement that she "did not and does not agree" with this fact. She also stated that she would not stop arms shipments to Israel. You call others "low information voters" while engaging in the very low information behavior that you accuse others of engaging in because you support party over policy to the point that you're supporting genocide in addition to all the other inaction and bullshit promises that have lead us to this point.

If you're so concerned about Trump or Trump-lile individuals getting elected, why do you continue to support the controlled opposition party that seemingly only exists to make the election seem legitimate? A party that, when the cameras were off, bent over backward to ensure Trump was elected again for the second time?

I recently posted about upgrading my media server and migrating off Windows to Proxmox. I've been following an excellent guide from TechHut on YouTube but have run into issues migrating my media into the new Proxmox setup.

Both my old Windows machine and new Proxmox host have 2.5Gb NIC cards and are connected together with a 2.5Gb switch and running on the same subnet. Following the guide, I've created a ZFS pool with 7x14TB drives and created an Ubuntu LXC which is running Cockpit to create Samba shares.

When transferring files from Windows, I'm only seeing 100MB/s speeds on the initial transfer and every other transfer after that caps out at >10MB/s until I reboot the Cockpit container and the cycle completes.

I'm not very knowledgeable on Proxmox or Linux but have run an iperf3 test between Windows > Proxmox and Windows > Cockpit container and both show roughly 2.5Gb transfer speeds yet I am still limited when transferring files.

Googling the issue brings up some troubleshooting steps but I don't understand a lot of it. One fix was to disable IPv6 in Proxmox (I dont have this setup on my network), which was successful, but didn't fix anything. I no longer see the interface when doing an 'ip a' command in Proxmox, though I do still see it when doing it in the SMB container.

Does anybody have any experience with this that can offer a solution or path toward finding a solution? I have roughly 40TB of media to transfer and 8MB/s isn't going to cut it.
