Binary search, there are so many instances where problems in life can be solved by eliminating half of a given set repeatedly.

Blender broken? There are only so many things that can go wrong, analyze the situation and try to find something that cuts your problem in half.

  1. Is the light on? It’s not electricity and that's a huge chunk of what makes a blender work.
  2. Light not on? Well now you've eliminated (temporarily) mechanical systems and electrical remains. Further splitting that part of the blender means either house power or internal blender power, check the outlet with another machine

This approach involves further splitting the problem into 2 as evenly as possible each time. It doesn’t make sense to whip out the multimeter if the on light isn't shining, you don't need to check on your house's breakers if the light is on, etc.

This system works for troubleshooting almost anything, all you have to do is find chokepoints and identify sections of your target. Toilet not flushing, faucet not on, car not starting, neck pain, allergies, it's almost harder to think of something it doesn't apply to.

Finally something we both agree on

Just try em out! You can't know until you perform the labor or at the very least shadow, that's why internships are such a big thing. Your parents did you a massive disservice.

Cunt? Not keen on watching a video but curious why the word is worthy of the bomb monicker

It's worth $0 if nobody wants it

Sex is gross, it's okay to not want it.

Obviously this is something you're conflicted about or you wouldn't post it online. It’s... not really a good thing to treat sex like this, if you're not into it you should avoid it. Some people are demisexual or whatever but if you are not into it throughout the whole process you should just not do it?

You aren't a sex doll, you're not a toy for the pleasure of your SO, it is your right to have sex if you don't desire it but you shouldn't let coercion take root in the bedroom because once the pattern is established it will just continue until you break up.

Hopefully he cares about you, if so he almost certainly wouldn't want to force you to do something you're disgusted by?

Idk I think the current inertia of people vandalizing teslas will hurt teslas sales more than anything else. Collateral damage sucks in every conflict, but it is feasible that this collateral damage may be considered acceptable by some.

Even if there was a person who could get over or even liked elon's idiocy, they would probably think twice before buying a tesla because of the idea of it getting vandalized.

Tool use/mcp can do an awful lot already, not everything but it’s hard to come up with stuff it just plain can't do.

Agi is poorly defined, without a clear definition of exactly what it is there will never be a time we actually achieve it because the goalposts will move.

We all probably remember the time that the turing test was the ultimate test of an ai, but that's pretty well cooked and it no longer matters at all.

I could always use a custom agent, but the extra features in chatgpt are nice. Why does it have to act like a third rate lackey trying to get on their boss's good side?

A few friends got emails today about Mass General moving forward with layoffs this week. Anyone you know affected already?

Artificial Superintelligence, AI systems that are more intelligent than humans across every domain, may or may not be coming soon

What could we do to prepare now for a future where it has arrived?

I have been considering:

  • starting local community groups
  • updating my investment strategies to be more resilient to market disruption
  • diversifying personal income streams
  • staying up to date with the latest news and learn to better use the latest tools/technology
  • upgrading personal skills towards the harder to replace industries

It's a bit difficult to imagine a truly "safe" way of life. Barring UBI and more progressive taxes it seems like it may be quite challenging for the average person to exist comfortably.

Some industries that are already impacted at the level of technology we already have

  • programming
  • ui design
  • creative writing
  • technical writing
  • customer support
  • graphic art
  • data analysis

I think almost every other industry is at risk of significant disruption. A capitalism based society will always stray toward the cheapest option, "if AI can take customer support calls for $1/day and customer satisfaction doesn't dip, why would I pay a person $150/day?"

I wonder if there's anyone out there who can't see their nose at all?
