You know how all those apocalypse movies start with some idiot in charge, making the worst possible decisions...and everyone in the audience is watching them and thinking, "This is such bullshit. No one would ever be this stupid. Even an idiot would know better."

Well. Here we are.

Ghostbusters tried to warn us but did we listen?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

WE DIDN'T LISTEN...LIKE AT ALL!

Somehow this was never really picked up on/reported after Trump's first term, but I try to spread this information as much as I can.

Trump's CTO during his first term, was Peter Thiel's protege. In March of 2020, Trump asked him to use cutting edge technology to fight COVID disinformation and track the spread of the virus before it got out of hand.

That's also the guy he picked for his fucking science advisor this time around, and now he's asked him to "blaze a trail," for U.S. tech supremacy.

From the 2020 Hill article

The White House on Wednesday asked the tech industry’s top players to help the government in the fight against coronavirus, tapping the expertise of companies like Apple, Facebook and Amazon to help beat back falsehoods and use artificial intelligence to glean new insights into the fast-spreading virus.

In a phone call, U.S. Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios implored the companies to help out with an “all-hands-on-deck effort” to fight the new coronavirus.

“The White House’s top priority is ensuring the safety and health of the American people amid the COVID-19 outbreak,” Kratsios said in a statement. “Cutting edge technology companies and major online platforms will play a critical role in this all-hands-on-deck effort.”

Peter Thiel's new protege is JD Vance.

The provision, introduced by Representative Brett Guthrie of Kentucky, states that "no State or political subdivision thereof may enforce any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems during the 10 year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act."

More proof that "State's rights" has always been code for oppressing minorities.

Turns out, states' rights, free speech, right to bear arms, small government, constitutional originalism, deregulation, border security, religious liberty, education reform, law and order, personal freedom... the whole Republican platform has all along been code for oppressing minorities.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Not just minorities, they're just first in line. White people shouldn't feel so comfortable, once they feel like they're getting the minorities under control, they'll start coming for recalcitrant Caucasians, too.

Rep Guthrie, who apparently voted to impeach Pres Biden, and the secretary of homeland security, as well as being anti-abortion and in 2011 voted for "a controversial provision that allows the government and the military to indefinitely detain American citizens and others without trial."

Seems to have just the right amount of education to be writing legislation around technology. /s

It was "State's rights" to own slaves but then "Federal Government Oversight" to force abolition states to return escaped slaves.

In other words:

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

I truly cannot fathom what gigantic pieces of shit Republicans are.

They are so cartoonishly, overtly evil. The fact that they can exist as they do and yet we're all just getting up and going to work every day has got me considering "simulation theory" more seriously than I ever could have otherwise.

It feels like someone modded the game in between one level and the next.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

That simulation theory seems more and more probable by the day lol.

Blue states need to do take a page from the GOP playbook and do it anyway and fight the decision up to SCOTUS. And if that fails at the Supreme Court, DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 days ago

Oh FFS. I thought this was preventing regulations WRITTEN by AI for 10 years. I was about to go on about the GOP actually getting something right for a change, like a broken clock. No matter how low my expectations, they still manage to dispoint.

Quick, somebody use the popular LLMs to generate abortion instructions

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

i kinda don't want women to die

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Some might die without proper abortions being available

"Musk steps away from government"

This and billions of dollars in contracts are his severance package

Meanwhile he will still run DOGE through his goonsquad

[–] Mossheart 14 points 4 days ago

Brought to you by the party of state's rights!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Somebody needs to do a bunch of deep fakes of these Republican douchebags. And just scare the living shit out of them about AI.

Maybe use chat GPT to create some news sources about their "sordid love lives" and never before heard of scandals.

Let them really know what AI is about.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

They're going to use it to arrest people they don't like.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Of course they fucking did. These shit bags have been planning this since Trump's first administration.
