Inostrancevia was a type of synapsid called a gorgonopsian—a group of saber-toothed beasts. It was about the size of a tiger but vaguely reptilian in appearance, with leathery skin like a rhinoceros.

its a stem mammal, gorgonopsid. basically a mammal but not quite mammal, but still has reptilian features.

For some reason I picture it as having really droopy jowls covering those canines. Like a mastiff on steroids.
