New feature in 7.54.0 (2025-05-13) on Signal Desktop now adds translated emoji names, to your language

Sadly, this throws off previous learning of emoji names. I personally only know the english names. It would be nice to switch back to english. Anyone feels the same?

I was wanting to share a Hoopla Digital link with someone and it immediately declared "link preview unavailable" without even trying as it usually does. This library-backed website is harmless. Signal's preview generation can be a little bothersome at times.

I use Molly but I'm sure its the same for Signal.

A recent update seems to ~~use my wallpaper accent colour to drive the~~ use a purple colour for the Dark Theme.

For some reason, to me, its really jarring.

While you can change the chat colours and wallpaper (although its more limited or you have to import your own). The purple still shows it many spots.

I'm pretty sure this is what changed unless I'm loosing my mind. I much preferred the old look by a mile.

If someone you know has facebook messenger or is an abuse victim.

Stories longer than 30 seconds say they will be "trimmed and sent as separate stories" but it does not do this and just posts the first 30 seconds of the video. It's been this way for me for a few months, are they working correctly for anyone? I use GrapheneOS without Play Services so I'm not sure if that is the issue or not.

I don't see a setting in Signal for quick replies, but when I tap the text box to write a message in Signal, I keep getting a "quick reply" shortcut hovering, with the app logo, "Why?", and an X to close it.

Is this a Signal feature or Android 15 reading the text and generating a potential reply? It's not my keyboard (Unexpected Keyboard) as far as I can tell, haven't seen this pop up in any other text entry field yet.

the safest form of messaging I have is Signal, but the whole point of the safety number is to verify that the person you're talking to on Signal is really that person, so I can't send my safety number through Signal. any other option I have, the data is going to be harvested by somebody.

how do you all do it if you don't have physical contact with your Signal people?

specifically, the emoji ones, not the text ones underneath

Some time ago, I read an article that all messenger apps, by EU directive, would have to build bridge protocols in order to have flow of communication between different networks.

Surfing the web, I read an article from 2016 where the Signal protocol was being integrated into Whatsapp. More recently, I read that Signal and Telegram could communicate.

What is the true status on this? The more I search, the more contradicting information I seem to find.

It's available in Molly

I have had the setting called "use address book photos" disabled for weeks, but signal still seems to load pictures from my address book for signal users without PFP, any way to stop this behaviour?

Yeah, I cannot make Signal display voice call to full screen on Samsung Galaxy S20. It is only displayed as a notification bar. Also on the lock screen it is not displayed at all, it just rings, and there is no even notification bar. When you unlock (actually it has no lock, just swipe) a phone still nothing, you have to open the top notification panel to accept or deny a call. I really need it for elder, that is not able to see a notification bar. I need it to be displayed in full screen, just like a normal call.

Could anyone help on this problem? I'd be grateful.

I've recently started using signal and getting some of my contacts switched. I have a signal contact that's in my iPhone contact list, but isn't linked and I can't find any way to get that link created. He's tried toggling the privacy->phone number options on and off, the "who can see" and "who can find me", with no luck.

One possible clue - my first signal connection to this contact was in a group chat, I texted the link and he joined signal that way. No idea if relevant.

Any thoughts?

Greetings!

A friend of mine wants to be more secure and private in light of recent events in the USA.

They originally told me they were going to use telegram, in which I explained how Telegram is considered compromised, and Signal is far more secure to use.

But they want more detailed explanations then what I provided verbally. Please help me explain things better to them! ✨

I am going to forward this thread to them, so they can see all your responses! And if you can, please cite!

Thank you! ✨
