News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Has anyone thought about changing all their previous posts and comments to something like, "This has been deleted in protest of Reddit's privacy policy. Please use lemmy.world instead"? Will I get banned from Reddit (not by mods) if I gradually change my previous posts?

I have tried a few times Creating an reddit account with VPN on but always get shadowbanned. Is there anything I can do to protect my privacy from reddit?

Or is there any public reddit account shared online that could be used publicly?

Are there any open-source Reddit frontends available for Windows? I’ve seen some options for Linux and Android, but so far I haven’t had any luck finding one that works on Windows.

Original post by SoRedditHasAnAppNow:

Last night and video was posted on terrifyingasfuck about a woman who was sedated for a c-section and the physician put his penis in her mouth while she was under. He was recorded because the nursing staff put hidden cameras in as they were concerned about what he might be doing.

I tried to report it to reddit, but there wasn't a category that 100% matched. Regardless, I reported it as "non-consentual intimate content."

This morning I woke up to learn that reddit had reviewed the post and determined that it did not break reddit's site wide rules.

So that's it. Reddit condones rape videos. I knew this site had problems, but I never expected this.

12 year old account got permabanned for telling a Nazi off. But even before this happened I've noticed how much reddit has dropped off the last few years compared to when I discovered it.

A team of researchers who say they are from the University of Zurich ran an “unauthorized,” large-scale experiment in which they secretly deployed AI-powered bots into a popular debate subreddit called r/changemyview in an attempt to research whether AI could be used to change people’s minds about contentious topics.

more than 1,700 comments made by AI bots

The bots made more than a thousand comments over the course of several months and at times pretended to be a “rape victim,” a “Black man” who was opposed to the Black Lives Matter movement, someone who “work[s] at a domestic violence shelter,” and a bot who suggested that specific types of criminals should not be rehabilitated.

The experiment was revealed over the weekend in a post by moderators of the r/changemyview subreddit, which has more than 3.8 million subscribers. In the post, the moderators said they were unaware of the experiment while it was going on and only found out about it after the researchers disclosed it after the experiment had already been run. In the post, moderators told users they “have a right to know about this experiment,” and that posters in the subreddit had been subject to “psychological manipulation” by the bots.

Last week Reddit proposed a program called Adopt-an-Admin where one of the suits joins your mod team to "build empathy" with the unpaid interns.

Just reading the details on this stuff is kind of fun, one of the only reasons I still go. r/modsupport, r/modnews, r/modhelp. The popcorn never really went away, it just evolves.

They've got insane persona non gratas blowing up their mod mail, moderator coups, their own posts get wacked by the automod. Fun stuff.

In particular, I'm referring to the people who would be redditors, but don't really use English. All the main Reddit subs are filled with English, and the few outposts on Reddit that mainly are not English are relatively small. This leads me to believe that such speakers must be going somewhere else for their Reddit-esque needs.

A few locations I'm already aware of:

  • South Korea uses arca.live
  • Japan uses LINE
  • The PRC uses Baidu Tieba
  • Russia uses Pikabu and VK

Do any of you know of any other non-English Reddit equivalents? I'm interested in how countries outside the US handle their social media.

Stop waiting for someone else to stop Trump. Stop acting like everyone except you doesn't know what's happening. Get up off your asses and do something.

Organize yourselves. You have the platform. Use it.

Signed an English guy who you banned for telling you to stop Trump by utilizing Princess Leia and a chain long enough to wrap around his neck.

"If you raise the fucking hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out."

In quotes and attributed, in a conversation about the Costco hot dog. But apparently I'm threatening violence. Lol
