Still new to the fediverse.

I see some posts on Pixelfed (I have a pixelfed.ca account) that come from people on Mastodon.

I can:

  • view those posts
  • like those posts
  • comment on those posts
  • see comments from other Pixelfed users
  • see occasional comments from Mastodon users
  • reply to comments from other Pixelfed users
  • follow the Mastodon user

All on Pixelfed (web).

But when, on pixelfed.ca, I click a Mastodon user's post's three-dot menu and then "View Post", it takes me to a Mastodon page and:

  • I see lots more comments that don't appear on pixelfed
  • I don't see my own comments
  • I don't see comments from anyone whose fediverse instance seems to be pixelfed-related

On Pixelfed.ca, I don't think I have ever seen:

  • a reply to me from a non-pixelfed user (but hey, I'm new, so maybe that's just me)
  • (not sure about replies to others from non-pixelfed users)

So my questions are:

  1. Can Mastodon users see/reply to comments from Pixelfed users?
  2. Can Pixelfed users see/reply to Mastodon users' comments on Pixelfed?
  3. Or do I need to get a Mastodon account to see / interact with them?
  4. Can I link to a specific post by a Mastodon user as it's shown on PIxelfed? For this post I wanted to link to an example post as it's shown on both Pixelfed and Mastodon, but the links I can get from Pixelfed ("View Post" or clicking on post time & date) go only to Mastodon. E.g. https://universeodon.com/@georgetakei/114371745785506928
  5. How is it decided which Mastodon posts get seen by Pixelfed users?
  6. Any other handy info on Pixelfed-Mastodon interaction?

PS I may not have covered all the possible interactions, or got them all right. Another one I just thought of: do we see each other's likes? I don't think on PIxelfed I see all the likes of Mastodon users.

I guess this is more of a general Pixelfed question, but what happens when a user hits their storage limit? Pixelfed.ca has a 1 GB per user limit. Will the user be unable to upload new content or will content be automatically deleted?

Pixelfed: "groups" are coming and they will be compatible with Lemmy (who knows if they will also be compatible with Friendica)

@fediverse

Groups are not new to Pixelfed, we have webUI support but the feature wasn't polished enough for use, until now ✨

:pixelfed: Groups will be compatible with #Lemmy, #Mbin, #Smithereen and other projects, and will resemble Facebook Groups in our official app!

Stay tuned, we'll be shipping the updated Groups support in the app and webUI this weekend πŸš€

Thinking about checking out pixelfed, as an Australian i's thinking of looking through the servers for an instance run with an Australian focus.

Closest i got was NZ, and i dont know how strict they are about Australians, they might class us as not Kiwi enough, their rule 8 is only Kiwis.

So my question,

What would people's recommendations for a good, nice instance be?

Bonus comments on my leading choices atm would muchly be appreciated.

  • pixel.tchncs.de (seem good, i think they have a lemmy instance as well.)
  • pixelfed.fr (i know the language, i'd see it as a challenge to get better, mon francais est trop pas)

Not trying to start a war here, just curious why the new instance was created. Different purpose, different goals, or just 'cause?

  • Simpler Onboarding
  • Starter Kits
  • Stories

These are the major updates coming to the next Pixelfed app build along with several bug fixes!

With some hacking at the database and APIs, I've put together a python script that allows backfilling of posts. I've now pulled in the most recent 50 posts of anyone that one of our users is following.

You may now bask in cats. https://pixelfed.ca/i/web/profile/797991200484212751

Hopefully that'll help it feel a little less empty!

I'm trying to view a post from a user on another instance and it shows "no preview available." I pasted the following URL into the search box on Pixelfed.ca.

The login interface only allows login with mastodon servers.

My only account is this lemmy.ca account.

Will it be possible to add login options for lemmy and other activity pub server software (e.g. friendica, peertube, etc)?

I'm liking Pixelix, it's free on Fdroid. It's better than the official app, but missing some features still

Hashtags on Home feed (self.pixelfed)
submitted 2 months ago by quaff to c/pixelfed

I'm following #Vancouver hash tags and I don't see anything showing up on my Home feed; there's been new posts since following the hashtag though. Those new posts with the hashtag should be showing up on my Home feed right? I know they do on pixelfed.social.

I see a post on my pixelfed.social home feed for an account @pixelfed.ca that has #Vancouver in the post.. but on my pixelfed.ca home feed, I'm not seeing that post. I can search for it though? Is there some kind of home feed setting I'm missing?

Does anyone else have a similar experience with following hash tags that aren’t showing on the home feed?

Will the import feature be enabled at some point? I want to migrate my photos over, would be good to use the import function for that πŸ™

Can see accounts on pixelfed.social but I can't see any pics from them.

Sometimes, when uploading to some sites, if I upload images with resolution and size within the correct parameters, the server doesn't re-compress the images. If the images do get compressed, then they come out looking degraded.

I don't know if those settings are per-server.

Does anyone know if there is a preferred resolution, file type and file size for photos and videos on pixelfed in general or pixelfed.ca?
