Yep, Yeppers, sure thing we can do that.

This is a daily post for “casual” conversation. If you want to post or talk about something non autism related this is where to do it. For example if you want to info dump about your special interest but it doesn’t fall into “autism related” then you can post it here in the comments. All other rules are still active, be respectful to each other.

yesterday i went to a concert of a friend of mine, then with some friends we went to his house for an afterparty. I had probably one of the most fun nights in my life (also bc we were all kinda ND). Then I went home, and all of it came crashing down: i was back in the place where i feel unwelcome, where im forced to live with my parents, who i came to hate throughout my life bc of how they give conditional love, have had many outbursts against me, fueled my meltdowns and punished me for them. Some days ago they found some weed in my room and my mom literally started talking to me as if i wasnt human, calling me a junkie and stuff. They never listen to me, when i talk about my feelings they always manage to either give useless advice or turn it personal and start a fight. For instance I've completely lost interest in uni bc they kept pushing me on the topic when i had major difficulties with it, and I'm considering dropping out bc i can't take it anymore. I can't move out bc I'm broke, if i don't finish uni I'll never be able to sustain myself outside of this fascist shithole called Italy, and i can't handle a job, let alone with uni. I feel trapped, and all i want to do is hibernate myself and forget about this world. I feel like I'm a mistake on this planet

I am an autistic 29 year old guy who started developing a serious addiction to Instagram and TikTok during the COVID pandemic. It got worse around 2022 when I lost my job. TikTok, like Reddit, does have lots of very informational and interesting content on there and I enjoyed watching lots of travel videos as well as many math and science related videos. However even those “educational” travel videos can become toxic as it’s mainly travel influencers who travel all over the world to visit nice places and make give us FOMO. In reality, they most likely come from wealthy families, have an abnormally high carbon footprint flying to all sorts of different places, and likely staying in cheap Airbnbs instead of hotels.

Most of these problems started when I got into some problems with some younger women on TikTok I didn’t know but made me very angry for some reasons. I made some nasty messages about them until one of them called me out. Thinking about it now, I very much regret it now and I wished I could apologize. After this, I’ve been contemplating about deleting TikTok. I already uninstalled Instagram but I still don’t want to delete it completely as I have lots of great material on there from the past.

TikTok, and social media in general, has became a massive scourge for younger people. It has made marginalized men more misogynistic and chauvinistic. It has made marginalized CIS heterosexual people more homophobic and extremely transphobic. It has made people in general much more racist towards other ethnicities.

Nowadays, TikTok has suddenly became an extremely vile place for anyone who is Indian. It’s a Chinese social media giant that was banned in India for some bizarre reasons, but this means that India has become the punching bag for jokes. I don’t mean playful jokes. I mean genuinely disgusting and racist comments I am of Indian-origin (born to Indian immigrant parents) and right now there is a conflict going on with India and Pakistan. On one video, there is a comment made by an anonymous user that has over 3,000 likes that said “I hope Pakistan nukes the sh** out of India and cleans the entire world of this plague!” On another video, another comment with over 10,000 likes said “The smelliest war in the world!” India has a myriad of problems, especially when it comes to public safety and corruption. However after reading some of these comments, I am ready to pull the plug on my TikTok account and say “Bye Bye” to TikTok forever.

My day started at 2:40AM with a high temp alarm at a site an hour away. Once I fixed this, an outage came in an hour from that site. And now I am working on that.

Happy Friday and Saturday Morning,

From the variety of perspectives that people across age groups, cultures, and neurotypes possess… It’s gotten me thinking a lot more about how to conceptualize respect.

Being autistic, usually it is difficult for me to gauge what the other person is thinking and desires. Unfortunately, treating others the way you would want to be treated, may oftentimes not be the mode at which the person expects you to interact with them.

I believe this may be due to a difference in definition or “feeling” of how respect is supposed to be conveyed.

How can one be more respectful? Extending the question… How can we as autistic people better adapt our behavior to provide a better social experience for both ourselves and our conversation partner(s)?

So sorta semi-TIL post. For men, smoking cigarettes causes epigenetic changes which means (as I understand it) that the DNA damage caused by smoking is passed on to their children. The male sperm is damaged from the effects of smoking. There is a 'significant' chance of it causing "developmental disorders" which includes autism, ADHD and intellectual disability.

Honestly, search for the articles yourself, there are many and it's an interesting rabbit hole. I do question how long this has been known to the cigarette companies who conduct their own research.

The UK has banned smoking cigarettes for under 16s for a reason. Making such a huge policy change like that must be for a very damaging reason. NZ did too, but pussied out - presumably from the lobbying.

So I just wanted to touch base and ask who has a father who smokes / used to smoke regardless of whether you've been officially diagnosed or think you may be autistic?

EDIT: I actually expected lots of downvotes for this post. There's a great film called "Thank you for smoking" which everyone should watch.

So I texted my mom last night that I think it's likely that I have autism. Then she texted back that she has always suspected that I have autism since I was little kid and that she loves me. I felt very validated and happy that it went better than expected although somewhat upset that she never did anything to help me.

However this morning I woke up to a text from her insisting that I don't actually have autism and I'm just lazy and over sensitive and that I need to get over myself and I have spent a lot of time crying in bed today.

[TW: Transphobia]

She's done this before which is why I was so nervous to tell her. When I came out to her as a trans woman she initially said nice things to me, but then the next day she started ranting about "why couldn't you just be a gay man" or "no one will ever love you if you're trans." It took her several years to come around and actually accept me.

All I really wanted from her was understanding, but she just gave me a lot of self-doubt and sadness instead.

Edit: Thank you all for your support, I really appreciate it ❤️🫂

What is your "boring" special interest? I am focused on learning a musical instrument. It's not an obscure special interest, but it is mine at the moment.

I didnt get hospitalized, though I saw my psychiatrist. She reccomended a therapy catered to my needs as a neurodivergent person (probably with the same who diagnosed me, hopefully). I cant say im happy but a little relieved by not having to be hospitalized

This is my tissue box. We don't actually keep tissues in it anymore. I have an extremely sensitive gag reflex. If I am having a bad morning looking at things like the sink drain can trigger me. Focusing on the tissue box helps to keep me grounded while brushing my teeth.
